Hampden County resident Nicholas Spellman, age 21, of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, was arrested by East Lyme Police in New London County on Thursday, April 14.

The arrest comes as a culmination of a lengthy investigation by the East Lyme Police detective division based upon evidence discovered during a New London Police Department investigation, said Chief Michael T Finkelstein, of the East Lyme Police.

Subsequent to a New London Police Department arrest, numerous electronic devices belonging to Spellman were subjected to a forensic examination by the state police, Finkelstein said.

An extensive investigation determined that Spellman had placed a video recording device within the bathroom of a private beach association where he worked, the chief added.

Police conducted interviews of victims and witnesses in multiple states and were able to identify 13 victims who were unknowingly photographed, Finkelstein said.

Spellman, who was arrested in January by New London Police on voyeurism charges and possession of child pornography, was charged with:

  • 13 counts of voyeurism,
  • 2 counts of risk of injury to a minor
  • Eavesdropping
  • Disorderly conduct.

He was processed and presented for arraignment.
